Pivotal Labs
We build the software that does not exist yet.
Pivotal Labs is a software development and product management team. We are the half of Pivotal that builds, whether that is a product of our own, a system for a client, or the missing piece nothing off the shelf covers.
Two things, done together rather than in sequence.
Most software goes wrong before anybody writes any. The specification is agreed by people who already agree with it, the assumptions surface one sprint at a time, and the build is blamed for a decision made months earlier. So product management is not a service we sell separately here. It is how the building starts.
Product management
Working out what should be built and what should not. Pressure-testing a specification before it costs anything, deciding what the first version has to do, and being honest about the parts that can wait.
Software development
Building it, shipping it, and keeping it running. Web applications, integrations between systems that disagree with each other, process automation, and the small internal tools that quietly save a day a week.
In development, taking beta testers
Terrarium: take your business back off a dozen licences.
Enterprise capable business tools, in one place, at a price a start up can actually carry. Invoicing, contacts, projects and a calendar that respects your weeks, working together because they were built together.
The problem it exists for
Growing businesses end up renting their own operations. One subscription for invoicing, another for contacts, a third for projects, a fourth to hold the first three together, each with its own seat price, its own export format and its own opinion about what a customer is. The bill grows with the headcount and the joins never quite close.
Who it is for
Start ups that cannot justify the stack yet, scale ups where the stack has quietly become the biggest line item after payroll, and enterprises that want to take back control from a set of vendors who between them own the way the business runs.
Test it before anyone else does
Terrarium will be subscription based when it launches. It is in development now, and we are looking for beta testers who will actually run their business on it and tell us where it hurts. Leave your email and we will be in touch about getting you in early.

Calendula: from website to appointment in seconds.
Booking for people and resources that captures every visitor into your contacts as they go, so an enquiry that turns into an appointment does not turn into a second round of typing.
The Hub
37 small things we built, and gave away.
The applets in the Hub are the offcuts: tools we needed for our own work, tidied up enough to be useful to somebody else. Every one runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you put into one is ever uploaded. They are free, there is no account, and there is no catch.
They are also the most honest thing we can show you. A case study is a story about work; these are the work, and you can use them right now without speaking to anyone.

Custom applications, integrations, process automation and the missing piece where nothing off the shelf fits. We will also happily tell you when the thing you want already exists and you should just buy it, which is the answer more often than a development team is usually willing to admit.
